Lego League State Championships

Dallin is talking strategy with his team before they go in to be judged. Not only do they get judged on how they build and program their robot, they are also judged in 3 other categories. Team work, they have to come up with a skit that explains their product. This year it was themed around how to preserve food, and illnesses you can get from food, like ecoli. They have to study and learn all about preservatives. They even went as a team a toured the cone factory (the cone factory makes and distributes all the ice cream cones for McDonald's and a ton of other companies around the world) to see how food is made and preserved. One of the things they get judged on is a question and answer, testing their knowledge of ecoli and preservation. They product their team came up with was a strip of paper that could test uncooked meat to let you know if the meat had ecoli. The program is for kids the ages of 4th grade through 8th. Our boys were the youngest group to compete here in Flagstaff and won. Then they went onto State were there was one other group there age. They ended up taking 18th out of the whole State of Arizona.

Getting ready to run the course.

Burning off some energy while waiting for the judges to add up scores. Honestly you have to love the weather in Phoenix in December. Dallin and I were being a couple of Lego heads. They leader Amy made these for the boys. Dallin and I had to leave before they handed out awards, we had a Christmas party to go to that night. Also I had a lot to get ready for, I was going back in for surgery on that Monday and needed to get the house, kids and schedule ready before we did this again.
